Round 1 of The East Meets West Boulder Comp

Saturday, the 15th of November, saw over 80 men and women with arms of steel tackle the challenges of the The Westway Sports Centre wall. A special set of boulder problems, designed for the event, were put up by Gareth Parry and Anthony Medes, with the help of Jack Griffiths and Yann Genoux. These problems proved demanding to all of the competitors, with problems ranging from V0 to V8. The East West competition was thoroughly enjoyed by all, with all the competitors cheering each other on towards glory, or the top of the wall. The winners for the juniors were: Kitty Wallace, Edward Ratcliffe and Brendan Gallagher The winners for the females were: Helena Coates, Saoirse Harris and Rachel Taggart-Ryan The winners males open (fun) were: Mike Rolf, Mark Gray and Chris Pile The winners for the male open (superband) were: Greg Karolak, Shaun Jansa and Eduard Stefan Prozsa Finally the winners for veterans were: Tim Hatch, Stow Kelner and Mike Lawrence Hopefully all these competitors went home with arms as sore as mine! I, with many other boulders, will wait eagerly for the Round 2 at The Mile End Climbing Wall (London) on the 29th of November Kevin Kinnison |
