The Schools' Climbing Competition @ Undercover Rock   Bookmark and Share

The Schools’ Climbing Competition took place on Jan 26th, at Undercover Rock. Over 15 schools competed against each other from around the Bristol area. There were plenty of challenges for everyone, with 4 different events to compete in: Speed climbing, Bouldering, Routes, and the Circuit. There was also a tactical component with each competitor only allowed to compete in 2 out of the 4 events. The results for each of the events can be seen below.

The speed climbing was amazing. Somehow it is humanly possible to climb up walls in under 10 seconds. I would not say that there was grace and style, but it was entertaining to watch!

The speed demon for the Juniors was: Djangi

For the Seniors: Xander

The bouldering was tough for all the competitors with the Juniors and Seniors having different routes to test themselves on. The sit starts proved to be the greatest challenge for most of the competitors. Everyone gave their best, even if they struggled to get their bottoms off the ground.

The best Junior boulder was: Max

For the Seniors: Joe & ?

The Route climbs were not easy, 12m high walls full of tricky moves all the way up had to be climbed. They were cheered on from a large crowd at the bottom, who helped them find the best way to go.

The best route climber for the Juniors was: Hamish & Dave

For the seniors it was: Ben, Simon & Will

The Circuit board was gentle at first with nice positive holds. Unfortunately they did not last; hanging on when it came to the nasty crimpers towards the end proved to be exceedingly difficult.

The best Junior on the circuit was: Dave

Senior Circuit: Simon, Makenzie, Will & 2 from Millfield

There was also an additional individual event that did not count towards the team scores; lead climbing. An extremely difficult orange route was set going through some desperate overhangs. Heidi took the honours of being the best leader on the day.

The scores for the Junior schools were: Lakers 160, Chipping Sodbury B 229, Cotham 360, Redland High 363, Hardenhuish 377, Fairfield 402, Chipping Sodbury A 407, Millfield 409, QEH 410, Cotham 412, Aston Park 427, KLB 431, Marlborough College 469, BGS 484

The score for the Seniors schools were: KLB 340, Hardenhuish 356, Fairfield 371, Marlborough College 394, Clifton College B 400, QEH 412, BGS 456, Millfield 479, Clifton A 487

Climbfind would like to thank all the schools and Undercover Rock for a great competition. I would also like to thank the sponsers sponsors DMM, Snow and Rock, Adventureworks and Red Chili for the great prizes. Everyone was polite to the camera man and did not beat him up, which helped as well. I look forward to seeing the next climbing competition between the upcoming climbers of the UK next year.
