Ajax Rock Oasis is my home gym, and because of this I've fallen in love with its atmosphere. As it is a slightly smaller gym than those in downtown Toronto, Rock Oasis certainly holds a much more personal feel for anybody who will come by enough to get to know the regulars. There are always fun things to do in or around the gym, and the community of climbers is extremely friendly. You can expect to find a climbing partner or bouldering friends on any given weeknight, simply by saying hello on your way in. Onto the climbing itself, the Ajax Rock Oasis' strength is its exceptional setting. Routes are extremely varied and pose unique, focused problems for climbers of all skill levels to overcome. Routes change at a steady pace, and if you find yourself with a project you really want to send, you can go ahead and request for it to stay up a bit longer. Bouldering is also the product of good setting, and Rock Oasis employees are pretty consistently putting up and recommending new material, including traverses and training routes if you want to work on endurance. There's a good variety of surfaces in the gym, and so the bouldering problems can be pretty varied. All in all, the Ajax Rock Oasis is an excellent gym, not too far from the Ajax GO Station. Without the busy or competitive atmosphere of slightly larger gyms, Rock Oasis' community shines, as does its excellent variety of routes. I highly recommend it to those who like to make new friends, especially!
