The Vertex is located within Unisport, the ivy covered University of Surrey sports center. The climbing facilities are located within a converted squash court and around three sides of a balcony overlooking the 5 a side football pitch. Climbing there includes about 30 7m top ropes on a variety of gradient walls which are a mix of rock effect feature walls and panels with bolt-ons. There is a 10m length of overhanging rock effect bouldering wall with holds ranging from massive jugs to tiny crimps. The easier routes are obvious lines up and across the wall on the bigger holds while university students have marked on harder routes in permanent marker. There is also 'The Hole', a vertical tube through which you can climb, boasting about 20 different routes of varying difficulty. The Vertex also has one of the longest continuous indoor traverses in the UK. From the entrance to the squash court climbers can traverse the four sides of the squash court and then link it to the 3 sides of the 5 a side football pitch on rock features cemented into the wall. To add another whole level to this, it can then be reversed, making it harder. Prices at the Vertex are reasonable, with a year membership for unlimited climbing costing students only £70. Non-student membership is just under twice that, also for unlimited entry to the wall. The main downside of this wall is the frequency at which the routes are reset. They are normally done once or twice a year voluntarily by the University of Surrey Mountaineering Club.
