Climbfind™ Privacy Policy

Climbfind is committed to giving you transparency of our privacy practices and control over your data in connection with Climbfind’s Platform. Please read this Privacy Policy statement (the “Policy”) to learn more about our privacy practices. This Policy describes the information we collect from you and what may happen to that information, and only applies to such information. This Policy applies to the Climbfind Platform, as defined in Climbfind’s Terms of Service Agreement, and covers Climbfind’s treatment of personally identifiable information (“Personally Identifiable Information”) and other data that Climbfind gathers when you are accessing the Climbfind Platform. The Platform is not available to individuals who are younger than 14 years old. Please review the accompanying Terms of Service Agreement, incorporated herein by reference.

1. Information Collection

1.1 We receive and store any information you enter on our Platform or provide to us in any way, in order to create a better, more personalized experience for you. For purposes of this Policy, “Personally Identifiable Information” means information that could be used to identify you personally, including, but not limited to, your name, email address, phone number, birthday, Twitter and/or Facebook account usernames, a password, browser information and your zip code.

  • a.The Personally Identifiable Information you provide is used for such purposes as allowing you to set up a user account (“Climber Profile”) that can be used to interact with other users through the Platform, improving the content of the Platform, customizing the advertising and content you see, and communicating with you about special new features and climbing related information of interest. We may also draw upon this Personally Identifiable Information in order to adapt the Platform of our climbing community to your needs, to research the effectiveness of our network and Platform, and to develop new tools and data for the climbing community and climbing gyms.
  • b.For each Partner CallTM you post, you may choose to create and store a short description or statement about yourself and the characteristics you seek in a climbing partner, as well as your intended climbing location. Please note that this information will be viewed by anyone who is accessing the Platform, and is accessible by anyone searching the Platform. Members should use caution in posting any Personally Identifiable Information on their Climber Profile and when posting a Partner Call™.

1.2 We may automatically receive your location when use our Platform, particularly the Climbfind mobile application. We may also automatically track certain basic information about our Members, such as, but not limited to, internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, click patterns, etc. We use this information to do internal research on our Members’ usage patterns, demographics, interests and general behavior to better understand and serve you, the Climbfind community, the climbing community, and climbing gyms and facilities.

1.3 We utilize site analytics to help us measure how visitors use our Platform. To do this, we use web beacons and cookies. A “cookie” is a piece of data stored on your computer that is tied to information about you. The type of information collected includes the URL you came from and go to, your browser information, and IP address, and helps us learn how to improve our services.

1.4For our Members’ convenience, we also use cookies to allow you to enter your password less frequently during a session and to provide for an easier registration process. If you configure your browser or otherwise choose to reject the cookies, you may still use our site. However, keep in mind that to best experience our website and Platform and most easily use our Platform you must have cookies enabled. Our use of cookies is consistent with the rights and restrictions set forth in Section 2.

1.5We may collect information such as postings you make on the public areas of our Platform, messages you post for Partner CallTM, messages you send to any Climbfind email address (, information you upload to the Climbfind website and mobile application, and correspondence we receive from other Members or third parties about your activities or postings on our Platform. Our use of this information is consistent with the rights and restrictions set forth in Section 2.

2.Use of Information

2.1We use the information we collect about you (including your Personally Identifiable Information) to create a better, more personalized experience for you based on your individual usage habits, improve our marketing and promotional efforts, analyze site usage, improve our content and product offerings, and customize our site’s content, layout, services and Platform. These uses improve our site and allow us to better customize it to meet your needs, the needs of the Climbing community, and the needs of climbing gyms and facilities. We also use the information we collect about you to resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, and enforce our Terms of Service Agreement.

2.2We may compile the information we collect about you and use it, in an aggregate form, in the negotiation and establishment of service agreements with public and/or private enterprises under which such enterprises will serve as Climbfind partners or as venues and locations, indoors or outdoors, for our Members.

2.3We may use, for promotional, sales or any use that we consider appropriate, your correspondence with us or photographs submitted by you for publication on our Platform, including, but not limited to, via email, postings on our website, or uploaded through your mobile device onto the Climbfind Mobile App. Our use of such materials is consistent with the restrictions on disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information set forth in Section 3.

3. Disclosure of Your Information

3.1 Without your affirmative consent (and on a case-by-case basis), we do not sell, rent, or share your Personally Identifiable Information with Third Parties, unless otherwise required as described in “Required Disclosures” below. To the extent we share information with our partners, including climbing gyms and facilities (“Member Gyms”), and advertisers, we share only aggregated or otherwise non-Personally Identifiable Information that is not linked to your Personally Identifiable Information. Aggregated information that we may share with our marketing partners includes, but is not limited to, information showing the relative popularity of one climbing venue over another, or the popularity of certain climbing-related topics, for example.

3.2You should understand that information you provide through the registration process or post to the public areas of our Platform, including your “Climber Profile” or generally through the use of our Platform (including your name (if provided) and location information) may be accessible by and made public through syndication programs and by search engines, metasearch tools, crawlers, metacrawlers and other similar programs, and may be searchable by other Members of Climbfind. You may elect to not be shown in a search by option out of this feature under your privacy settings.

3.3In addition to the data sharing described above, we enter into relationships with Member Gyms and work closely with them. Members of Climbfind may be exposed directly on these Member Gyms’ websites in order to assist Members in connecting with other Members in particular Member Gyms. In certain situations, these Member Gyms sell goods and/or services or provide promotions to you through Climbfind’s Platform. In other situations, Climbfind sells goods and/or services or provides promotions jointly with these Member Gyms. You may elect to not to be shown on Member Gym websites by opting out of this feature under your privacy settings.

3.4Required disclosures. We may need to disclose your Personally Identifiable Information when required by law, including laws outside your country of residence, or if we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our website, (b) enforce this Policy or the Terms of Service Agreement, (c) respond to claims that your Personal Information violates the rights of third parties, including those outside of your country of residence; or (d) protect the rights, property or personal safety of Climbfind, its Members and the public. You authorize us to disclose any information about you to law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate, in connection with an investigation of fraud, intellectual property infringements, or other activity that is illegal or may expose us or you to legal liability.

3.5Your Climbfind Personally Identifiable Information is protected by password for your privacy and security. You need to prevent unauthorized access to your account and Personally Identifiable Information by selecting and protecting your password appropriately, and limited access to your computer and browser by singing off after you have finished accessing your account. Although Climbfind endeavors to safeguard user information, Climbfind cannot guarantee the security of user account information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of user information at any time. Furthermore, the Climbfind Platform may contain links to other websites. Climbfind is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other websites. When linking to another website, you should, you should read the privacy policy stated on that website. This Privacy Policy only governs information collected on the Platform.

4. Communications from Climbfind and Members of the Climbfind Community

4.1As a member of the Climbfind community, you may from time to time receive correspondence from Climbfind to your email address which must be provided upon registration, in addition to your Climbfind account. If you do not want to receive email or other mail from us, please indicate your preference during the registration process or by customizing your alerts. Please note that if you do not want to receive communications and legal notices from us, such as notices regarding this Privacy Policy and/or changes to the Terms of Service Agreement, those legal notices will still govern your use of the Climbfind Platform, and you are responsible for reviewing such legal notices for changes. We may receive a confirmation when you open an email from Climbfind if your computer supports this type of program. Climbfind may use this confirmation to help us make emails more interesting and helpful and improve our Platform.

4.2You may also receive communications from individuals of the Climbfind community to your Climbfind account. You may elect to not receive communications from individuals of the Climbfind community by opting out of this feature under your privacy settings. If you choose this options, please note that you must message other Members to initiate a conversation before they can send a return message. Use caution when providing your email address within your Climber Profile. Climbfind suggest not posting your personal contact information, including your email address, directly within your Climber Profile.

5.Reviewing, Updating, Deleting and Deactivating Personally Identifiable Information and Privacy Settings

After registration for our Platform, we provide a way to update and personalize your Personally Identifiable Information and privacy settings. You may access these options under your Climber Profile by accessing “info.” You may personalize your Climbfind URL (i.e.,[username]), or leave the element blank to prevent your Climber Profile from being indexed and searchable. You may elect to prevent your personal feed of your activity from being displayed on your Climber Profile. You may also elect to prevent showing your activity (i.e., check-ins, partner call postings, opinions, etc.) on the public climbing feeds. Finally you may also elect to prevent your climbing history from being shown on your Climber Profile page.

Upon your request, we will deactivate your account and remove your Personally Identifiable Information from our active databases. You can delete your Climber Profile by accessing your Climber Profile and selecting the “Delete Profile” button. If you terminate your account, your Climber Profile, including your check-in history, climbing history, uploaded information, submissions, etc., will be removed from the Platform and deleted from Climbfind’s servers.

Nonetheless, we may retain in our files information you may have requested us to remove if, in our sole discretion, retention of the information is necessary to resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems or to enforce the Terms of Service Agreement. Furthermore, your information may never be completely removed from our databases due to technical and legal constraints.

6.Notification of Changes

6.1If we decide to change this Policy, we will post those changes on or post a notice of the changes to this Policy on the homepage ( and other places we deem appropriate, so you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. We will use information in accordance with the Privacy Policy statement under which the information was collected.

6.2If we make any material changes in our privacy practices, we will post a prominent notice on our website notifying you and our other Members of the change. In some cases where we post a notice we will also email you and other Members who have opted to receive communications from us, notifying them of the changes in our privacy practices. However, if you have deleted/deactivated your account, then you will not be contacted.

7. International Users

If you are located outside of the United States, please note that this site is hosted on our computer servers in the United States. Therefore, your information may be processed and stored in the United States. As a result, United States federal and state governments, courts, or law enforcement or regulatory agencies may be able to obtain disclosure of your information through laws applicable in the United States. Your use of our Platform or your submission of any Personally Identifiable Information to us will constitute your consent to the transfer of your Personally Identifiable Information outside of your home country, including the United States, which may provide for different data protection rules than in your country.

8.Users Under 14 Years of Age and Parental Participation

If you are under age 14, absolutely do not attempt to register for Climbfind’s Platform or provide any personal information (Personally Identifiable Information) about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected personal information from an individual under age 14, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that we might have any information from an individual under age 14, please contact us at the contact information Section 10.

Furthermore, we strongly recommend that minors 14 years of age or older ask their parents for permission before sending any information about themselves to anyone over the Internet and we encourage parents to teach their children about safe internet usage practices and Climbing safety.

9.Dispute Resolution

Any dispute, claim or controversy arising out of or relating to this Policy or previous Privacy Policy statements shall be resolved through negotiation, mediation and arbitration as provided under our Terms of Service Agreement.
