A variety of moderate to difficult sport routes on vertical to overhanging volcanic rock. The area was recently developed (around 2001) and most route are clean and safe. Volcanic rock is always loose and crumbly though, so belayers wear helmets and pay attention.
From the visitor center hike to the Rock Pool, 4th class traverse around the rock pool, then proceed up the gully by bouldering over some house sized boulders. Stumbling Blocks is the Area at the base of the gully. Mt. Gorgeous climbing is higher up by 5 minutes.
Occasionally holds pull loose and small to medium rocks fall. Climbers and belayers beware. Please replace the few open shuts with safer mussy hooks that are found on some climbs here!

Mt. Gorgeous
Locally famous area, possibly should be regionally famous. Great volcanic rock is very different from the sandstone and granite that abounds in California. Routes are fun and the Hollywood history of the Malibu Creek State Park is wonderful.

At mt gorgeous with the ringwalds and friend. Wet approach from recent high water but the climbing is good and challenging. Rope gun Michael and Kelly!
