Arapiles

Outdoor rock climbing Arapiles

This has to be one of the trad climbing Mecca’s of the world.

There are several reasons why people from all over the world come to Arapiles year after year.

• The abundance of quality climbing within a 30 minute walk from the campground – There is literally 6 months worth of 2-3 star climbs located within walking distance, for all abilities. The rock has everything: crimps, sloppers and huge jugs bigger than you head.
• The brilliant weather – It rains a couple a times a month at most. Typically the area is drought ridden so you get not rain at all! The best times to go are in Spring and Autumn, but for Northern hemisphere climbers Winter is great as well.
• The climbing community – There is something really special about the climbing community at Arapiles. Maybe it is because it is inhabited by only climbing bums, but you always feel that you are part of a climbing community here.
• The cheap life style - $1 a night for camping. As for food everyone hitches into Horsham regularly for supplies. If you are even cheaper than this you can work on the local organic farm for food and go dumpster diving. You can live here for almost nothing.
There are not a whole lot of activities outside of climbing here. Reading, going into Horsham for internet/supplies/a swim or shower and sitting around a camp fire talking shite are popular pastimes. If you really want something different play football or netball for the Natimuk Rams. They are always looking for sports people.

The pictures are Kachoong (21), a climbing kitchen and a Watchtower Crack (16)

I'm a beginner climber, who has mostly only climbed indoors, and a few outdoor climbs at Werribbe Gorge and Arapiles. Looking for a partner for indoor climbing 1 night per week, preferably at Nunawading.

    Hi All,

I am a French student in Melbounre since tow months. I am desperately looking for a climbing partner. I have tried chocksotne but not much success. I don't have a car, no rope and no gear because it was to heavy to bring with me these stuff in the plane.

The next week end it's a long week end and I am looking for some poeples to head up to Araps or Grampians to climb some teens grade (Ozie grade) from the 6th to the 8th of June. I can lead and practice climbing since a long time.

So if your are interested let me know! It can be fun.

    Cheers

    Raph

Once upon a time after a few glasses from our faithful goon box. I set out to do this squeeze problem bare chested. The squeeze on this problem is so tight that you have to breath out to move. Let's just say that taking my shirt off and scraping my way through it was not the smartest move. I shredded myself; it looked like I had had sex with about 10 raccoons. Ouch

My mate Brian did the exact same fall.... It's probably one of favorite climbs and the next time I do it I am going to take the jump and see if it's any fun :)

Hi - I'm entering into an extended holiday as of the beginning of May and would like to spend as much of it as possible exploring the climber's wonderland that is Australia. Based in Sydney I'm particularly interested in getting out to the Bungles, Grampians or Mt. Arapiles. That said, there are tonnes of crags in the Bluies I haven't touched yet either, so if anyone's got anything planned there, don't be a stranger.

Currently I have very little experience on lead but am eager to be open, put in hard work and learn. I'm an easygoing Canadian, hardy and adaptable but also happy to enjoy creature comforts when they present themselves. As I'm just moving into more techncial styles I don't have much gear at the moment but am more than willing to acquire some, as well as contribute to trip expenses and organization.

As for the climbs: I'm hungry to try everything... technical, epic, committed, reachy, pumpy, scenic ... you name it.

I look forward to any inquiries or invites.
    Cheers, Ian

Oy. Taking a tour around the pacific and looking for people to rope up with. Just got down to St Kilda and planning on heading to Arapiles and/or the Gramps for a few weeks. Got a few potential links through Chockstone, but I figured I'd just whore it up across the whole wide intardweb and find as many possible climbing partners as possible. I don't have my rack with me (I do have a rope), but I'm an experienced leader on gear.

Having a great trip so far, but it's been weeks since I've sunk my hands into a warm crack. Hoping Araps has what I need. Anyone out there looking to swing leads?

Anyone keen on going to Arapiles in Victoria (Australia) on Easter long weekend?

I'm heading - if you're coming from Sydney let's do it. Trying to get a big group together and take one day off either side of the weekend.

    Let me know.

    Erin.
