Mallorca
The island of Mallorca has for a long time established itself as one of Europe's premier rock climbing and sports climbing destinations. Also Mallorca has now become a top European venue for Deep Water Soloing (DWS). The type and style of the rock climbing found at Mallorca has something for everyone from slaby walls, evil overhangs, juggy tuffas, roofs, and cracks. With a few notable exceptions, the majority of the rock climbing on the island is single pitch, with plenty of routes at every grade. The Deep Water Soloing areas are situated in idyllic bays mainly on the southwest side of the island.
If you avoid the hot summer season then you will find a quiet island, with pleasantly mild weather, that is easily accessible with cheap flights from all over Europe, and has lots of bolted limestone rock to climb. On top of this there is still the scope for developing new routes such is the abundance of rock to be found on Mallorca.
The majority of the established crags are located in the mountains on the northeast side of the island. The atmosphere of the climbing is magical with beautiful crags of perfect rock, set amidst some majestic mountains with glorious sunny Mediterranean weather.

Directions
There are too many areas to list them here; the Rockfax gudebooks (and downloads) are recommended. The Psicobloc guidebook concentrates on harder routes. A Kompass walker's map can be useful. A car is useful but some areas can be reached by bus and train:- sa Gubia near the village of Bunyola, Valledemossa, Tijuana near the village of Cala Santanyi (also the DWS and the arch in the same place), and the DWS at Porto Christo, Cala Serena near Cala ferrera, Port de Soller.

Comment/Reply - Msg Alexandria McCullochMy partner and I are staying in Mallorca and would like to go climbing over the sea or just outdoors. Anybody interested? I am not sure of any routes close to Palma. Does anybody have any suggestions where to go?
- Roger Hill - I will be there 14th-18th September and hopefully meeting Ryan and Ted (below). Would be good to say hello as we do not all need to climb same grade. I am busy just now but will email (later) some general information that may help.

- Jordi - Hola!! I'll be in Mallorca from 14th to 16th of Sept. We most probably do DWS but maybe also some sport climbing. Some friends reccomended me to go to "Cala Barques" to do DWS, so we will probably meet there if you go.
- Alexandria McCulloch - I am trying to prepare myself for DWS, but its going pretty slow. I mean I just went bouldering on some overhangs, and I didn't last too long. I still want to try it, but I would definitely be up for some sport climbing!!! :-)
- Jordi - I was climbing in Mallorca some years ago. Some nice places I visited and liked for sport climbing were Fraguels, Sa Gubia and Tijuana (Cala Santanyí).

13 through 22 Sept. DWS. Would love to climb with others over the water. Will be camping. But if anyone has some extra floor space in apartment or hotel room, I'd be happy to pay.

Plan to head out late september for 10 days of deep water soloing. Hope to be as cheap as possible, might roadtrip (via font) or fly, then probably bivi in a cave or something. Check in if you have ideas, advice, want to join etc. Most of the stuff out there looks pretty hard, i think to get the most out of it onsighting at least french 6c would be handy.
